DIY Last-Minute Halloween Accessories

(Note: this tutorial was created before I had this blog. So the text instructions will not be as in-depth for any posts created before September 30, 2018.)

These DIYs are for anyone who is in the last-minute Halloween scramble. Whether you need a finishing touch for your costume, or just aren't dressing up all the way this year, these 3 DIYs will add a bit of subtle Halloween to your wardrobe.

A video tutorial is below, then all the supplies and text instructions are under that.

DIY Ghost Sleeve Sweater

Supplies:

Instructions:

  1. Trace and cut out 2 ghosts on the white felt. I just googled “ghost clipart”

  2. Use black paint, nail polish, or permanent marker to draw on the ghost’s face

  3. Try on your sweater and pin the ghosts at your elbows

  4. Remove the sweater and sew the ghosts on. The best part about this DIY is that the ghosts are temporary and can be removed when halloween is over. You’ll actually be seeing this sweatshirt return for another DIY later.

  5. And now you have a frighteningly cute sweater.

DIY Bat Hair Clip

Supplies:

  • Black felt

  • Barrette

  • Hot glue

  • Scissors

  • Pencil

Instructions:

  1. Cut out 5x6 inch piece of felt (bow)

  2. Cut out 1x6 inch piece of felt (tie)

  3. Fold the larger piece of felt in an accordion shape

  4. Hot glue the smaller piece in the center of the folded felt

  5. Wrap that around the bow, looping it through the barrette as well

  6. Once you get to the front, glue that down. Then take scissors and cut the little bat ears

  7. Cut out the shape of the wings

  8. A finally optional step is to take some red paint or even red nail polish and paint on some eyes. It may take a coat or two.

  9. And now your hair won’t fly away on Halloween night.

DIY Spider Choker

Supplies:

  • Ribbon

  • Spider rings

  • Scissors

  • Hot glue

  • Measuring tape

  • Safety pin

  • Lighter

Instructions:

  1. Measure somewhat loosely around your neck to get the size of your choker. Add about 5 inches or more onto that measurement

  2. Cut your length of ribbon.

  3. Carefully use a lighter to melt the ends. This prevents fraying.

  4. Cut the rings off the back of the spiders

  5. Attach the spiders using hot glue. Be sure to start an inch in on both sides.

  6. Finally, tie the ribbon in a bow around your neck and wear around your creepy crawly choker
